On Wednesday, we met a Scottish man. His name is Tom Macintosh. He showed us 4 Scottish dances : « Up and down the river », « Wedding dance », « Beautiful captain » and finally « Cutting the trees ». We spent an amazing moment together. After, he played bagpipes and chanter in front of us. This was our first time hearing a Scottish man playing bagpipes. We talked with him about Scottish emblems and traditions. He told us that people from Scotland, danced at weddings, funerals and important occasions. He also said that each family has their own colors of “tartan”. The “tartan” is the design of kilts. He was also wearing “sporran”. It’s a bag to keep things because there isn’t any pocket in the kilt. Next, did you know that in Scotland, there are 10 million sheep for 5 million inhabitants? It would mean that each inhabitant could have their own 2 sheep. Then, the money is the same as in England (pounds) but there isn’t Queen Elisabeth II on the banknotes.
Funfact : sometimes, in England, the Scottish banknotes can be refused by traders.
This Scottish workshop was an amazing experience.
Thank you Tom for this incredible moment!!
